QUICKFIRE FRINGE: #8. Scribble

★★★★☆

Sitting down in my seat I was met with this note which set me up for the performance ahead. A (near personal) note, everything Scribble is a two-hander starring Alan McKenzie and one new actor every night who has never before seen the script.

"Bran flakes, anxiety and gravity.

The smallest moments in history.

The largest events in the universe. Blink and you'll miss it."

For the most part, this is a play about anxiety, though it later becomes apparent that its moreso a comment on mental health as a whole. when the main character is met with compulsive thoughts.

Written and directed by Andy Edwards and Amy Gilmartin respectively,

It was an honest, endearing, sincere, welcoming performance and one I'd love to see again.

There is minimal audience interaction, yet Scribble felt like a shared effort experience and one of mutual trust.

Who's it by?

this is considered "Draft 49" and honestly, I quite like the unfinished nature of it. It's unpredictable and a continual work in progress, something which is often seen a a bad thing in theatre but with an issue that is constant and ever-changing, why not have a play remain just as adaptable. I hope to see Draft 50, 51, 57... 60... 100, and beyond, because it'll mean the conversation continues on, as it should.
